Deleting Spam

Google added a nifty link to their Gmail spam-managment interface. The link deletes all of your collected spam. This is exactly the same as clicking the All group selector and then hitting Delete except that it takes one target acquisition and one click instead of two and two. Ah! But then it pops up a confirmation dialog which is modal and required another target acquisition and mouse click. What’s more, the confirmation dialog is further from the Cart Blanche Delete link than the Delete button is from the select All link making the new control more difficult to use (in terms of Fitts’ Law) than the old control.

I ask you, Google, why did you bother?
